On my recent London adventure, I headed to a…erm…unique experience. Up at The O2 is a pretty awesome urban mountaineering experience in which you literally climb The O2 (or Millennium Dome if you’re a 90’s kid…)
After watching a hilariously poorly acted intro video, our guide Ross took us to get harnessed up. You get to don some pretty swanky boots, like these are some seriously clumpy sensible shoes but they do the job so you can’t moan too much. You also get a body warmer style jacket to jeep your phone in and you get a harness with a big dangly ball hanging off it.
You must all hold your balls when walking as they can swing and they’re pretty heavy…literal balls of steel. After climbing up the steps to start the climb, you get to have a couple of snaps taken that you can then purchase at the end of the climb, you then get clipped on to the wire and sent on your merry way.
Ross, our guide walked alongside the group the whole time I guess just to make sure no one dies, that simply wouldn't be a good look. The actual walkway is made of a trampoline material, the urge to bounce is ridiculous but we were all adults and behaved ourselves.
At the top you get a pretty bloody nice view of London, it was a really cloudy day when we climbed but the view was still pretty cool, you get around 10 minutes at the top which is ample time for a million selfies…including the above in which I rocked some rather awesome hair.
The descent is way steeper than the climb, you literally have to compose yourself and not run down it like an uncontrollable child. The experience was awesome, I did it with my sister (The Stylinguist) and her boyfriend Nath and we all said it was much better than we were expecting it to be - I’d recommend it, you can pick from three different climbs: The Original which is a daytime climb, The Sunset which is exactly what it says it is, and The Twilight which is a climb in the dark - I personally reckon it’d be pretty epic doing it in the dark!
Tickets start from £35 and are available right over here. It’s definitely worth checking out for an awesome experience, team building day or for the city-based adrenaline junkie.
